ANNOUNCEMENTS

Annual Meeting/Board Elections;

Good friends,

We will be electing a President, Treasurer and Camp Representative on Saturday, February 1, 11 AM, at the Yoders'.

As you may be aware, at the last Members' Meeting, we were unable to elect a Head Camp Follower or Camp Representative. We are also looking for a person to fill the role of acting as the sunshine committee for the organization. Because the role of HCF and Assistant HCF are so closely related, the roll of Assistant HCF is being left vacant until such time as we have a Head Camp Follower for an Assistant HCF to serve under. The roles of Corporal and the role of Goodwife are "at will", so if you are interested in any of these positions--Corporal, Goodwife, Head Camp Follower or Camp Rep--please let the members of Staff or Board know.

Wanted!

Submissions for the Newsletter!

Items you can submit include research articles, character sketches, and other items pertaining to living history and Scottish Culture. Email your items in either plain text, or MS Word format to newsletter at clanntartan.org or snail mail to our postal address.

Items must be received by the 15th of each month to be considered for inclusion for the upcoming months issue. Mailed submissions will not be returned unless requested. All pertinent submissions will be considered as space permits. All research articles must reference at least three sources. Submissions may be broken in multiple parts.

Deadline for articles to go in the February newsletter will be January 15.

Members Meeting: November 2, 2013

I) Board Presentations:
	A) Treasurer: We were paid for two events and outflows were modest. We do have additional known expenses that have 
	yet to be processed. There are still two outstanding revenue items, as well. We are operating at an overall deficit. 

II) Staff Presentations:
	A) Chief of Staff: The company’s items will be put to bed November 16 at noon for the winter. There was a cooler that 
	died between Big Island and Mankato, but that was already noted. While we have additional coolers, the one that broke 
	is a smaller size and easier to use with smaller groups of participants. There were donated glass bottles, as well. 
	Anthea volunteered to collect them, Bruce will get her a donation receipt. 

III) Guid Reports:
	A) Sword: There was a display of interest in sword with additional information on times/dates/location.
	B) Music: Continues to meet about once a month, first Thursday, at the Yoder’s house.
	C) Dance: Looking for additional attendees. As of right now, there is not scheduled dance meetings. 

IV) New Business:
	A) Jack’s Farm: Jack has been ordered to move the buildings that are on the FEMA flood plain. A vote was taken to 
		volunteer manpower (if feasible) or funds up to a total of a set dollar amount.
	B) Event Planning for 2014: A request will be sent out to look at the potential attendance for known events in 2014 
		with an eye for planning for planning. This will help with establishing “drop dead” dates for the feasibility of 
		contracting. This will be sent out via email to start.
	C) Returning of Gear: Please return such gear at the garage meeting. 
	D) Marty’s Truck/Camp Haulage: Marty’s truck is DOA. 
	E) Woodware: The condition of the woodware pre-dated the July Muster. The garage after Tactical was left disorganized
		and in a state that had the potential to damage corporate equipment. A reminder was given that because the garage 
		is a remote location, we must be very cognizant of the condition of the equipment when it is returned there. 
	F) The Cannon: the contract on the cannon has been cancelled. A discussion was had about how to notify Don of the 
		cancellation of the order. David offered to call and let him know. Once Don has been notified, Betsy will draft a 
		formal letter to confirm the cancellation. She will need his mailing address. 
	G) Cookbook/Fundraising: A new cookbook has been discussed. What, as an organization, would we like to see in a 
		fundraiser? What is the expected market? What “face” do we want to have on the cookbook? This would be a new volume.
		The cookbook we do have--should it be reprinted instead of doing a new cookbook? There were two comments from David: 
		he is hesitant about doing a new cookbook due to our track record for producing the tri-folds. We also no longer have 
		a sales site set up, so how many are we going to sell even if we reprint our current cookbook. The organization did 
		agree that the current cookbook is not horribly period appropriate…. 50 copies sold in more than a year but less than 
		2. There are a few markets, and Etsy was also discussed. A pricing quote would need to be retrieved on reprinting the 
		current cookbook--which was the consensus about next activities for this item. There was also a discussion of adding 
		some photographs of our members working in the kitchen and soldiering. Betsy will get a quote for the reprinting based 
		on the current edition.
	H) Keys: We would like to have keys called in after the staff election. 
	I) Newsletter articles: We would like more of them! If someone has an idea for content in the Newsletter that they want to 
		work on, please contact Betsy.

II) Elections:
	A) Thank  you, Anthea, for being the HCF for the past two years. The call was made for nominations and volunteers. If there 
		is no HCF elected, the work will need to be assigned on a case by case basis. As there was no one volunteered or 
		accepting the nomination, it was tabled for the February Members Meeting.
	B) Assistant HCF: tabled until we have a HCF for them to choose to serve under or not.
	C) Goodwives: Annie, Laura, Margaret, Elizabeth (unless she would rather be called a Corporal)
	D) Captain: Marty volunteered again and was elected on a paper vote. 
	E) Lieutenant: Rich volunteered again and was elected on a paper vote.
	F) Corporals: David.
	G) Camp Rep: There were no volunteers to fill this position for the remainder of its term. It will be raised again at 
		the February Members Meeting.
	H) Contracts Rep: David volunteered to take this over.
	I) Newsletter Editing: Mike and Anthea Volunteered. 

III) The Captain’s Award:
	Congratulations to this year’s recipient of the Captain’s Award for the 2013 season: Rich

The next Members Meeting is February 1 at 11 am.

Guilds

Sword Guild:

Come out and learn the ways of Highland defense.

Join the Sword Guild and feel the raw power of the sword.

Music

We will sing and play music of many styles and places from our period. Bring your voice and/or your instrument(s). Neither need be period correct.

The Yoders have graciously offered to host music once a month. We will meet at their house at 4736 12th Ave S, Minneapolis, from 7 - 9pm the 1st Thursday of each month.

Dance

The Dance Guild gathers twice a month from 7PM-9PM to learn and practice historic Scottish country dances.

Dance will meet on the 2nd and 4th Tuesdays at Saint Christopher's Episcopal Church, 2300 N Hamline Ave. in Roseville.

It is at the northeast corner of Highway 36 and Hamline Avenue (Hamline is between Snelling and Lexington). The church is actually encircled by the highway entrance ramp. You may have heard of St. Martin-in-the-Fields. Think of this as St. Christopher's-in-the-Cloverleaf :-)>


Historic Site

Clann Tartan has our own historic site near Duluth MN. Dun Gowan is an ongoing project, which is the site of Gaffneyis Annual Tactical in June. We are finishing the fort and beginning the construction of a village this year. The work weekends for this year will be May 18 & 19 (weather permitting), June 1 and 2, June 29 and 30, September 7 and 8 with October 19 and 20 being our last weekend to work (weather permitting).Contact David Vavreck at 612-353-1237 or baethan1630 at yahoo dot com for further information, or to volunteer to help.


Calendar of Events

Be sure to contact your staff if you plan on attending a show event. Try to give at least a ten day notice when possible. This allows proper planning for the feeding of our members, and in some cases is required by event organizers to allow entry as a participant.

Event Schedule:

Hello all,

The following is a list of the dates of the events that are currently on the schedule for this year. The staff has met and decided to keep this running list of events in the newsletter to give you a chance to get an idea of what is going on this season as well as keep you updated to changes in the schedule.

The column titled status will include the following information.

Tentative- this means that an event organizer or Clann has expressed a strong enough interest in doing this event that it warrants reserving space on the calendar for the event.

Pending- this is the next stage of an event. This means that the Contracts Administrator has entered serious discussion about Clann doing an event but we are still not committed to the event. You should however if possible think about whether or not you may be able to attend this event.

Scheduled- this level means that the board and staff have approve the event and we are committed to providing manpower to making the event happen. When an event is assigned this level please let the HCF know as soon as possible if you can or can not attend this event.

Canceled- This means that for various reasons an scheduled event has been removed from the current season. We will try and give as much notice as we can prior to canceling an event.
